The difference between the Cornish and the Devon Rex
One of the most frequently asked questions is what is the difference between the Cornish and Devon Rex cats? The two breeds are different in several ways.
The Cornish Rex first appeared in 1950s England, as an unusual kitten(mutation). Cornish Rex cats are known for having large ears set on top of small, angular heads with Roman noses. They have long legs and narrow waists, their body type often compared to that of a greyhound dog’s. The Cornish rex has a softer, wavier coat than the Devon and a more exotic/oriental look . Also from England, Devon Rex cats have large ears like the Cornish but the Devons ears are shaped different and sit lower and to the sides of the head. The Devons head is also different, being shorter and wider with pronounced whisker pads and a break in the nose. Devon Rex, have sturdier, shorter legs and a somewhat pot bellied appearance, both breeds are petit in stature with the average being between six and nine pounds. The Devon rex is also known for its short, curly coat. The Cornish and Devon are known for being extremely low shedding cats and many people with cat allergies or asthma have had great success in owning both breeds with little to no reaction. Both breeds have loving curious personalities, If you want a cat that will lay on the couch all day this is not the breed for you, they are talkative and inquisitive and crave human companionship the majority of the time.
